Our Approach

Xcite Steps’ founders Stefan Hochfilzer and Matthew Winkley, with the support of our clinical team, have developed the Xcite Steps Natural Opportunity Model, an approach to working with youth and adults on the Autism Spectrum. This model uses a natural approach to facilitate behavior change, socialization, play, communication, and language development in the most naturalistic and easily-generalized fashion, with the goal of closing the gap between atypical and typical development as quickly as possible. Successes and growth are tracked using extensive data collection and comprehensive assessments, to maximize progress throughout treatment.

The Xcite Steps “Natural Opportunity Model”/Our Approach

When a child, teen, or adult enters our program, we begin the process of getting to know both the client and the family through an extensive assessment process that examines background information, history of previous and current services, client and family medical and behavioral health history, and completing both a developmental questionnaire and Wellness Assessment. Our extensive and comprehensive assessment process allows Xcite Steps and our team to understand how to best fit each client’s specific needs, and ensures we have established the most appropriate goals for treatment.

After the assessment process is finished, our team directs their focus on intervention strategies during one-one, social group, or community based therapy sessions. Our experienced interventionists work in the client’s environment using naturalistic and play-oriented techniques to begin shaping behavior and increasing growth. Our interventionists are the highest qualified in the field, and trained to look for the most naturalist and opportune teaching moments to utilize throughout sessions. Throughout this process, data is recorded and behaviors are tracked to ensure the treatment stays on track. Our data collection and tracking speaks volumes, and drives the need for program modification or additions. Our data collection and tracking speaks volumes, drives the need for program modification or additions, and allows for immediate feedback for parents.
