Discovery Club (Ages 3+)

Xcite Steps’ Little Adventure Club is our Social Skills Therapy Group, or Social Club, for kids ages 3 and up who fall on the Autism Spectrum, or who experience social anxieties, PDD-NOS, or minor disabilities.  Our team of clinical, socialization, and  behavioral experts have come together to structure a program that combines the most advanced ABA principals and goals with the Xcite Step’s Natural Opportunity Model.  This means that the children involved in this program receive high quality ABA Social Skills Therapy through a 1:1 behavior specialist and supervised by a licensed and credentialed professional in an environment that is fun and natural.  Every Saturday children attend engaging community outings where they build confidence in their friendship and social skills in a natural but coached setting.

The “Discovery Club” is structured in a manner to work on the following areas: Attention, Non-Verbal Imitation with and without Objects, Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Appropriate Socialization/Social Interaction during a structured game (e.g., t-ball) and during an unstructured game (e.g., playground structure), Receptive Instructions, and overall effective communication.  Individualized social skills deficits will be identified by Xcite Steps Supervisory staff and then targeted during the 6-week Discovery Club sessions.  The identified social skills for increase will be monitored and tracked throughout the 6 weeks.  The Discovery Club takes place in a local parks around San Diego that allows for a more natural setting for the child.

The Discovery club focuses on basic verbal and non-verbal social and functional communication skills. Each session starts out with a practice of appropriate peer greeting and a circle time including songs and books. This group also heavily incorporates both fine and gross motor skills, including cutting, coloring and gluing during arts and crafts, as well as gross motor skills such as sports activities and games, that incorporate fun movement. Discoverers will learn to follow directions, play games, request attention and help while maintaining consistency with the same park setting each week. Most importantly, the group focus is to lay the foundation for building friendships with 1:1 support.
